About Us

Businesses for Community is a group of business owners who see a deep interdependence between healthy communities and healthy businesses.

We recognize we would not have the resources we do without the support of the community in which we operate. And just as our businesses are dependent on the community to support them, our community is likewise dependent on our businesses, relying on tax funds from entities and employees to fund essential government services.

It is the goal and purpose of Businesses for Community to pool resources and efforts to promote leadership and actions that focus on sustaining and improving this interdependence and the wonderful attributes of the communities we call home.

Our mission

Businesses for Community unites business leaders from Marion and Polk counties and surrounding areas who believe that strong families, safe streets, and thriving businesses rise together. We are leaders who act boldly and serve humbly—committed to building a community where opportunity is plentiful for all, leadership is accountable, and pride runs deep.

Through direct action, honest advocacy, and investment in our neighborhoods, we work to renew the promise of our community: a community where families can flourish, businesses can grow, and future generations can call home with pride.

Our approach

Our pooled resources are directed into support initiatives in two areas.

First, Businesses for Community is committed to identifying and supporting means of supporting our schools, expanding and improving community gathering spaces, and supporting or creating facilities and events that encourage community involvement, interaction, and participation.

Second, Businesses for Community is committed to supporting a political and social environment that recognizes thriving communities need thriving businesses, and thriving businesses need thriving communities.  Neither can exist without the other.

We believe the more we interact, the better our community will be.

Our core values

Our purpose is to promote the growth and sustainment of the best possible community in which to raise a family. To achieve that goal, streets must be safe, schools must produce performing, capable graduates, and cultural and entertainment opportunities must be plentiful and meaningful. Further, businesses must be able to thrive. Our beliefs and approach are rooted in the following:

Pride & Purpose

We believe in our community and the people who call it home. Pride in our community drives us to act when others stand idle.

Leadership with Courage

We will not shrink from difficult decisions or unpopular truths. Real leadership means standing firm for what is right and fair.

Service before Self

We lead through contribution—building parks, supporting schools, and creating opportunity. Every action must lift the community we serve.

Accountability in Action

Government and business alike must answer to the people they serve. We demand responsibility, transparency, and measurable results.

Strength in Fellowship

Our unity is our advantage. Behind every public success stands the private resolve of committed members who work quietly and stand proudly together.
